About This Drill
The Ready Up drill is the most fundamental shooting drill—presenting your firearm from low ready to the target and firing one accurate shot. It's the building block for almost every other drill.
From low ready (gun pointed at the ground in front of you), bring the gun up to your eyeline, acquire the sights on target, and press the trigger for one clean shot. The goal is a smooth, efficient presentation with no wasted motion.
This drill teaches sight acquisition, trigger prep during the presentation, and breaking a clean shot without disturbing the sights. Master this before adding complexity like multiple targets or reloads.
Start with a 2-second par time and work down. Competition-level shooters can complete a ready up in 0.6-0.8 seconds. Focus on consistency over speed—a reliable 1.2 second ready up beats an inconsistent 0.9.
